The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the existing mAadhaar app will be discontinued soon and replaced by a new Aadhaar app designed to offer a faster, smarter, and more secure digital experience for users.
The move is part of UIDAI's efforts to modernise Aadhaar services and meet evolving technological requirements and user expectations. While the mAadhaar app enabled millions of residents to carry and access their Aadhaar digitally, UIDAI said the new application introduces improved functionality, a refreshed interface, and stronger security features.
According to UIDAI, the new Aadhaar app includes advanced capabilities such as face authentication, secure QR code-based Aadhaar sharing, enhanced privacy controls, and digital verification tools. Users will also be able to access a range of Aadhaar services, including mobile number and address updates, profile management for up to five family members, biometric lock and unlock features, face verification, and contact sharing.

"It is designed to make your Aadhaar experience simpler, and more convenient than ever!," it said in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).
The authority has urged users to download the new Aadhaar app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to ensure uninterrupted access to Aadhaar-related services once the mAadhaar app is phased out. The app can also be downloaded through UIDAI's official Aadhaar platform.
In social media posts, UIDAI highlighted the benefits of the new application, describing it as a next-generation platform that offers seamless Aadhaar services with enhanced security and user-friendly features.
Meanwhile, UIDAI has also extended the free document update facility available through the MyAadhaar portal. The authority said Aadhaar holders will continue to be able to update their supporting documents online free of cost until June 14, 2027.
The extension follows a positive response from Aadhaar number holders after UIDAI had earlier waived document update charges through the portal until June 14, 2026. Under the revised order, the free service will now remain available for an additional year, from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027.

UIDAI said the decision aims to encourage more residents to keep their Aadhaar records updated and accurate. The facility can be accessed through the myAadhaar portal.
The transition to the new Aadhaar app and the extension of free document updates underscore UIDAI's broader commitment to improving digital identity services while ensuring convenience, security, and accessibility for millions of Aadhaar holders across India.
