West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asserted that she will not resign or accept defeat, claiming that her party was not morally defeated in the recently concluded elections. “I will not resign, I did not lose, I will not go to Raj Bhavan… The question doesn’t arise. No. Now, I also want to say that we didn’t lose the election. It is their attempt to defeat us. Officially, through the Election Commission, they can defeat us, but morally we won the election,” she said, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, tensions escalated in West Bengal’s political landscape on Tuesday as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of widespread post-poll violence, while also questioning the role of central security forces and the Election Commission.
In a series of posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), TMC alleged that incidents of violence were reported in multiple locations, including Alipurduar, Falta in Diamond Harbour, Bally, and Jalpaiguri. The party claimed that its offices were vandalised and workers were attacked in several areas following the election outcome.
In one of the video posts, TMC alleged that an elderly woman was assaulted in Ward No 1 of Alipurduar and criticised what it described as “BJP-backed violence,” while also questioning the deployment and role of central forces retained after the elections. The party further alleged that its offices were targeted and accused BJP supporters of creating unrest across parts of the state.
"BJP's violent face stands exposed. Bengal will not tolerate this barbarism. Every drop of blood shed will be answered," TMC said.

Describing the situation as “post-poll violence,” the TMC asserted that it would not be intimidated and warned of resistance against such incidents. It also questioned whether recent political developments in the state reflected the “Poriborton” (change) promised earlier.
Separately, TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also levelled serious allegations against the Election Commission, claiming it functioned as “biased” and questioning the conduct of central forces and senior government leadership during the electoral process. She described the BJP’s reported victory as “immoral” and “illegal,” according to her remarks cited in party communications.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a landslide victory in West Bengal, according to official data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), marking a significant political shift in the state and a historic breakthrough for the party in a long-time opposition stronghold.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP emerged victorious in the state elections held on May 4, decisively wresting control from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The result is being seen as a major realignment in West Bengal politics, with the BJP recording its strongest-ever performance in the state.
A key highlight of the election was the defeat of West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in her constituency of Bhabanipur. She lost the seat to BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of 15,105 votes, dealing a major blow to the ruling party and ending what was long considered one of its strongest political bastions.
Mamata Banerjee’s loss in Bhabanipur is being described as a symbolic and strategic setback for the TMC. The constituency had earlier been viewed as an unassailable stronghold of the Chief Minister, making the result a dramatic reversal of political fortunes. The outcome also raises questions over the TMC’s continued dominance in the state, where Banerjee was seeking a fourth consecutive term.
The broader results further underline the BJP’s sweeping performance across the state. As per ECI data, West Bengal’s 294 Assembly constituencies saw the following outcome (with results declared for 293 seats):
