UP Electricity Bill Hike: Electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh are likely to face higher bills from June 2026, as the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has directed the implementation of a 10 per cent Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS), according to an official notification.
The surcharge will be applied in the June billing cycle to recover increased power purchase and transmission costs incurred in March 2026, in line with the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (UPERC) Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) Regulations, 2025.
As per the regulation, additional fuel and power procurement expenses are recovered with a three-month lag. This means the incremental costs incurred in March 2026 will be passed on to consumers in June 2026 bills.

In a letter issued by the Chief Engineer of the Regulatory Affairs Unit (RAU), it was stated that the FPPAS for March 2026 has been calculated at 10 per cent under Clause 16(4) of the MYT Regulations, 2025. The surcharge will be applicable across all categories of electricity consumers.
“The Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS) calculated for the month of March 2026 is to be charged in the month of June 2026,” the letter noted, adding that distribution companies have been instructed to implement the levy uniformly and ensure necessary disclosures.
The directive also asked power distribution companies to upload detailed calculation sheets on their official websites to maintain transparency.
Meanwhile, the notification comes amid broader concerns over rising fuel costs, which have also impacted retail fuel prices in recent weeks. Petrol and diesel rates have seen multiple revisions, adding to input cost pressures across sectors.
With the new surcharge coming into effect, household and commercial electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh are expected to see an increase in their monthly power bills from June 2026.
