West Bengal Election 2026 Results: The latest counting trends in the West Bengal Assembly elections suggest a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), indicating a closely watched electoral battle may be tilting in favour of the opposition.
As per the latest trends, the BJP has crossed the halfway mark and is leading in 185 seats, significantly ahead of the TMC, which is currently at 93 seats. Other parties have also opened their accounts, including:
Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) – 2 seats

Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) – 1 seat
Communist Party of India (Marxist) – 1 seat
All India Secular Front (AISF) – 2 seats
Several high-profile seats are witnessing intense contests:
The vote counting process is still underway, with final results of the election yet to be officially announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
According to news agency ANI, Adhikari told reporters: "BJP is forming the Government. Initial trends show BJP as 135 plus and approx 100 to TMC. Initially, it will be a neck-to-neck fight in Bhabanipur. In the first round of counting, out of the 14 booths, 6 are Muslim-majority. They used to get 90-95 per cent of those votes last time, but it didn't happen this time; there is a crack. I am leading the 8 Hindu booths. From round 9-10 in Bhabanipur, I will be leading."
"There is anti-incumbency, plus Hindus are consolidated in favour of the Lotus. This is a very good signal for us...There has also been a Muslim vote bifurcation, especially in Malda, Mushidabad and Uttar Dinajpur," he added.
The elections recorded historic participation levels. Phase I recorded 93.19 per cent turnout which combined with Phase II turnout of 91.66 per cent to create an overall turnout of 92.47 per cent, which stands as one of the highest rates since independence.
The TMC led by Mamata Banerjee achieved a decisive victory during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections when they won 213 out of 294 seats with about 48 per cent of the votes. The BJP became the main opposition party by winning 77 seats and receiving about 38 per cent of the votes, which represented a major increase. The Left-Congress alliance, however, failed to open its account.
The final outcome will depend on how these leads hold as counting progresses although early trends show a BJP advantage.
