Good news for Delhi-NCR travellers: Thousands of daily passengers travelling between Delhi and Faridabad may soon get major travel relief as Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved a new MEMU passenger train service on the busy NCR corridor.
The move is expected to improve rail connectivity, reduce pressure on overcrowded transport networks and provide a faster, affordable travel option for office-goers, students and regular passengers travelling between Delhi-NCR cities.
Welcoming the decision, Rekha Gupta thanked Narendra Modi and the railway minister for approving the new service.

According to a Railway Board communication dated April 27, train numbers 64038/64037 Delhi–Faridabad MEMU have been approved for daily operation. The service is expected to start from an “early convenient date” after operational formalities are completed.
Delhi–Faridabad MEMU train timings
As per the proposed schedule:
64038 Delhi–Faridabad MEMU
- Departure from Delhi: 10:30 am
- Arrival at Faridabad: 11:45 am
64037 Faridabad–Delhi MEMU
- Departure from Faridabad: 2 pm
- Arrival in Delhi: 3:45 pm
Officials said a 12-car MEMU rake currently operating on the Delhi–Shamli route is likely to be used for this service.
Delhi–Faridabad MEMU train route, stations
The new MEMU train will run through several important stations across Delhi-NCR, including:
- Sadar Bazar
- New Delhi
- Shivaji Bridge
- Tilak Bridge
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Okhla
- Tuglakabad
- Faridabad
The route is among the busiest commuter stretches in NCR, with thousands depending daily on metro, buses and suburban rail services.

Passengers travelling between Delhi and Faridabad have long complained about:
- Overcrowded metro services
- Heavy traffic congestion
- Delays in existing transport options
- Lack of affordable daytime local train services
Several commuters have also flagged long gaps between local train services during afternoon hours, forcing many passengers to rely on expensive or overcrowded alternatives. The new MEMU train is expected to:

MEMU stands for Mainline Electric Multiple Unit, an electric passenger train mainly used for short- and medium-distance travel. Unlike conventional trains, MEMU services do not require a separate locomotive because power is distributed across multiple coaches. This helps in:
- Faster acceleration
- Better energy efficiency
- Quicker boarding and deboarding
- Smooth operation on routes with frequent stops
These trains generally operate at speeds of around 100–110 kmph and are widely used on suburban and intercity routes. Modern MEMU trains also come equipped with:

- Bio-toilets
What Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said on Delhi–Faridabad MEMU service
Rekha Gupta said residents from Faridabad and nearby areas had long demanded better rail connectivity because of increasing crowding and delays in existing transport systems.
“The MEMU service will offer a faster and more accessible alternative and help ease pressure on road networks,” she said.
The Chief Minister added that the Delhi government has been working closely with the Centre to strengthen transport infrastructure across Delhi-NCR.
