The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online Aadhaar update service, giving Aadhaar holders more time to update their documents online without any charges. The facility, which was earlier scheduled to end in June 2026, will now remain available till June 14, 2027.
The free service is available only through the official myAadhaar portal. Users can upload proof of identity and proof of address documents online to keep their Aadhaar records updated.
UIDAI said the decision was taken after a positive response from Aadhaar holders using the online update facility.

The free Aadhaar update facility is meant for users who want to update supporting documents linked to their Aadhaar details online. It is especially useful for people who enrolled for Aadhaar many years ago and have not updated their records recently. Users can upload:
The facility is free only on the myAadhaar portal. Aadhaar updates carried out at physical Aadhaar enrolment centres will continue to attract applicable charges.
Aadhaar holders can complete the update process online in a few simple steps:
Open the official myAadhaar website and log in using your Aadhaar number.
Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number to access Aadhaar services.
Select the document update section and verify existing identity and address details.
Upload valid proof of identity and proof of address documents in PDF, PNG or JPEG format. The uploaded file size should be below 2 MB.
Submit the request online and save the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) for tracking purposes.
Certain Aadhaar-related services still require users to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre physically.
These include:
These services are not covered under the free online update facility.
While document updates on the myAadhaar portal are currently free, some Aadhaar services continue to attract charges. According to UIDAI:
The free online document update facility will remain available till June 14, 2027.
UIDAI has also announced that the existing mAadhaar app will soon be discontinued. Users are being encouraged to shift to the new Aadhaar app, which offers QR-based Aadhaar sharing, enhanced privacy controls and easier access to Aadhaar services.
The authority said the upgraded app is designed to provide a simpler and more secure digital identity experience for Aadhaar holders.
