Amid growing concerns over gas supply in several regions, authorities and energy regulators in India are taking steps to stabilize the situation and encourage alternative gas distribution methods. One such initiative includes incentives for consumers opting for PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections. Some city gas distribution companies have announced offers that include free gas worth ₹500 for new PNG connections. The objective behind this initiative is to promote the adoption of piped natural gas and reduce pressure on LPG cylinder supply. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has issued directives to City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, asking them to prioritize domestic consumers in gas allocation. The regulator has also instructed companies to accelerate the process of providing PNG connections and offer certain concessions to customers. Meanwhile, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has also announced incentives to encourage consumers to switch to PNG services. Officials have stated that while the gas supply situation remains a concern in certain areas, the government is closely monitoring developments. Authorities have also reassured that India has sufficient crude oil inventories, which helps maintain overall energy supply stability.
